“My goal in painting is to communicate the beauty of God’s creation through the elements and principals of a fine oil painting. Painting in the traditions of the Old Masters is a never ending quest for me.”
I am a native of Northern Minnesota, a Viet Nam Veteran, a graduate from Moorhead State University with a B.S. Degree in Art Education and I studied four years privately under Antonias Raemaechers a Dutch Master, while taking two years of portraits and figures at the John Herron Art Institute.
In 1980 I established "Houglum Fine Art Studio & Gallery" in Safety Harbor, Florida. I have taught privately and in the Pinellas County Schools of Florida. After I moved to Franklin, North Carolina in 1996 I re-established “Houglum Fine Art Studio & Gallery” there.
